Five Visions for Tenor from the Poetry of Hermann Hesse
When approached by tenor Brian Thorsett for a new piece, I selected several poems of Hermann Hesse. These five poems mix images of day and night, stars and water, brotherhood and war in typical Hesse style. The songs add a clarinet to a basic string trio to bring both high-pitched tension and low, dark color to the piece.
