A setting of St. John 1:1-5 (“In the beginning was the word…”)

Middle school organist

Middle school organist

Originally trained as an organist, I found myself heavily involved in church music since that is where organs usually are. My Kirchengebrauchsmusik runs the gamut from tonal motets to exotic artificial scale anthems (the former, of course, more generally acceptable in the intended environment).

This piece falls somewhere in the middle with its use of non-functional triads, particularly in the handbell and handchime parts. The work was written for the Plantation United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Chapel Bells ensembles.
